Dr. Main is among the foremost experts on the safety and efficacy of ultrasound contrast agents, sometimes also known as ultrasound enhancing agents, and has published extensively on the topic.  He also is a frequent lecturer on the safety of CEUS in various patient populations, and has played an active role in ICUS briefings for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration staff. Dr. Main currently serves as co-executive medical director of Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute, chair of the cardiovascular division within Saint Luke’s Physician Group, and as a professor of medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
