Our Expertise

Prof. Piscaglia is an expert in abdominal applications of CEUS and has personally performed more than 10,000 clinical CEUS examinations. He is the first and corresponding author of the European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB) guidelines on non-hepatic clinical applications of CEUS and coauthored the 2018 guidelines on management of Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) of the European Association of the Study of Liver (which now endorse CEUS for HCC diagnosis). Prof. Piscaglia served on the American College of Radiology CEUS LI RADS core working group and has coauthored several other international CEUS guidelines. As an active contributor to the development of all phases of CEUS clinical applications and technological advancements, Prof. Piscaglia has published more than 60 scientific articles on CEUS, with research focusing on the characterization of focal liver lesions and other clinical abdominal applications of CEUS. His preclinical research laboratory examined new ultrasound applications and new ultrasound contrast agents in experimental animal models. Prof. Piscaglia has served as president of EFSUMB and is honorary member of the Romanian and Bulgarian Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology. He also is the local Principal Investigator of studies on hepatic applications of CEUS funded by the European Union and by the NIH.
