Program description:  Cardiovascular CEUS

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify specific clinical cases that would benefit from CEUS and potentially improve clinical outcomes;
  2. Perform a basic CEUS examination for specific applications;
  3. Interpret the enhancement changes which occur following microbubble contrast agent injection;
  4. Set up a CEUS laboratory with required supplies, protocols and ordering/compliance mechanisms in place, and with involvement of hospital administration;
  5. Interpret and apply relevant CEUS labeling; and
  6. Report and submit reimbursement forms for CEUS usage.

CME information

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the Illinois State Medical Society and International Contrast Ultrasound Society (ICUS).  The Illinois State Medical Society is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Illinois State Medical Society designates this live activity for a maximum of 6 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

9:00 a.m.    Ultrasound contrast agents:  Composition, safety, labeling, guidelines & criteria    
9:20 a.m.    Benefits and drawbacks of CEUS vs other imaging options              
9:40 a.m.    BREAK
10:00 a.m.  Breakout sessions:  Knobology, equipment, ultrasound contrast agents
11:00 a.m.  How to set up a successful CEUS lab - P&T, work flow, reimbursement, other issues        
11:30 a.m.  How to scan: Techniques for injecting, imaging, positioning of patients, etc.     
Noon          What images do you need?  And what do they show?                 
1:30 p.m.    LVO - Rest and treadmill/bicycle and dobutamine  stress echo            
1:50 p.m.    Quantitative myocardial perfusion imaging                    
2:10 p.m.    Carotid    CEUS imaging                                
2:30 p.m.    BREAK    
3:00 pm.     Additional uses:  E.g., cardio-oncology, EF, sonothrombolysis, therapy
